Sorenia
Overview
A massive city floating in the sky, Sorenia is the strongest military power in the world. Using their advanced magic technology, they created airships used for battle and transportation, as well as weapons used to combat the giant flying demons often seen around the city.
Despite having the power to conquer the world, Sorenia has had a long history of responsible leaders who wield the technology solely for defensive purposes, as well as a smaller history of assassinated leaders who died before they had the chance to use the technology for invasion.
Sorenia has largely good relations with the other kingdoms, though whether that is because Sorenia's people tend to be welcoming or because everyone fears Sorenia's power is up for debate.
History
Many thousands of years ago, Sorenia was among the least advanced kingdoms in Vargus. When the gods banished the god of destruction to the Nether, he did not go quietly. During the fight that ensued, a single sliver of magic no larger than a pea fell from the Heavens to the mortal realm in the form of a crystal, creating a crater one thousand feet in diameter when it made impact with the ground.
The crater and the crystal were discovered by accident by a lone wanderer who brought it back to the rural city that had been Sorenia. The crystal shard held power beyond comprehension and allowed them to create technology that was unheard of anywhere else.
Eventually, they raised their city into the sky. To this day, no one knows where the crystal came from, why it was so powerful, or the name of the wanderer who discovered it. While the story of Sorenia's origin is still told, it is considered a legend that is likely untrue.
Technology
Sorenian technology is powered by celestial magic, the magic of the gods, though no one is aware of this fact. There are many theories as to what it is, but no one knows for certain.
Much of their technology is used for military purposes, most notably weapons and combat-ready airships that are used to combat the demons that spawn near the floating city. Sorenian blades can cut through any material effortlessly, and bullets can pierce through solid materials without slowing or stopping, though bullets disintegrate into nothing after they've flown a certain distance.
Shields reflect projectile magic like light bouncing off a mirror, and armor protects the body better than enchanted steel or monster hide. Given the power of Sorenian weapons, they are very strictly controlled by the military, and no civilian may own one.
While most airships are used for combat, some are used for transportation all throughout Vargus. Nearly every kingdom has at least one airship port for public transportation. Additionally, Sorenian technology is used to power homes within the floating city, though this technology is not found anywhere else in Vargus. The only time Sorenia has ever used their military technology for anything other than demon fighting was when they ended the Great Dragon War one thousand years ago.
