The Great Dragon War

One thousand years ago, there was a war between two factions of dragons who fought for superiority. The war raged on for decades and became so violent that the entire continent was at risk of being destroyed.

The kingdom of Sorenia, who saw the carnage from their floating city, could tell that if nothing was done, then all would be lost. Using their advanced technology, they created the ultimate weapon that would end the war. During a massive clash between the dragons, Sorenia used their weapon. In one fell swoop, both sides of the battle were annihilated, and the few survivors scattered to the corners of the world.

Now, in the place the battle took place, lies a desolate wasteland of ash and bone named Dragonblight Valley, where only the brave and foolish dare enter. This was the only time in history that Sorenia used their military power for anything other than fighting demons, and has never built another weapon like the one that ended the Great Dragon War.

The Collapse of Abyss

Prior to the Great Dragon War, there was a place called Abyss, a series of underground caverns the size of a kingdom populated by dark and sinister creatures who built a society full of violence and deceit.

When Sorenia's weapon ended the Dragon War, the shock caused the majority of Abyss to cave in, killing most of the inhabitants. The survivors fled to the surface seeking refuge, but were not welcomed by any of the kingdoms, who knew of the violent culture the denizens of Abyss had. They instead built their own settlement in the center of the continent which became the unofficial thirteenth kingdom, Oasis.

The culture of Abyss vanished over time, instead becoming one of acceptance towards all who come to their kingdom, especially those who feel they have nowhere else to go.

The Orelian Empire

For several centuries, much of the continent was ruled by the Orelian Empire. While the Empire's rule was not necessarily a cruel one, they still subjected the other kingdoms to strict laws without giving those kingdoms any say in the matter.

How exactly the Orelian Empire rose to power is unknown, but historians can say with certainty how it fell. Shortly before the Empire fell, they planned to invade Nelesh, the kingdom holding the excess wealth of all the other kingdoms in its underground vaults. General Argax, a devil who usurped the throne from a tyrant king not long beforehand, issued a threat to the Empire that if they invaded Nelesh, the wealth of the Empire would vanish.

The Empire believed Argax was bluffing and attempted their invasion anyway. Argax followed through with his threat and drained the Empire's coffers through means the Empire never discovered. With no money left to sustain it, the Empire very quickly fell.
